Weak or non-swimmers, stay out of the water!
We went out Saturday afternoon for a session to test our new Airush 13m Lithium Light Wind kite. We now have the entire range of Lithiums.
They really are awesome kites. If anyone wants to demo one, just give us a shout.
The wind was blowing about 10-12mph and Travis was lovin’ the 13m with the Underground 5’10” Fish in some small waves. I can’t wait to take it for a spin myself! Hannah and Neil joined us to hang out and enjoy some beautiful weekend weather.
It was a nice day at the beach, but it was hard to relax with all of the rescue vehicles streaking down the road, beach, and overhead. I couldn’t imagine what could be wrong on such a beautiful day. At one point, I finally got the chance to ask a lifeguard what was going on as he was motioning in a surfing couple. The guy looked like he was teaching his girlfriend to surf in waist-deep water. The lifeguard told me that lots of people were getting caught in rip currents. Although I have lots of respect for lifeguards, I was seriously concerned about him calling in the couple who were obviously competent in the water. I’m no lifeguard, but I could see for myself that they were in no danger. I wanted to point out that she had a large flotation device strapped to her leg, but instead just kept my mouth shut hoping the tourists stop getting the rescue crews into such a frenzied state.
The funny thing is that no one seemed too concerned when Travis had a harness malfunction and floated ¼ mile down the beach out where the big fish swim. We owe a thank you to Neil for swimming out to get the board. However, the board almost beat him back to shore when it caught a wave just as Neil was about to reach it. The freewave is so good, it doesn’t even need a rider! Luckily, neither Travis nor Neil got stung by the jellyfish that are still hanging around.
Before we left, a dolphin started doing some weird jumps halfway out of the water repeatedly. I know it’s odd when a dolphin stays out of the water long enough for me to run get out my camera and snap a shot. We think he was trying to warn the weak or non-swimmers to stay out of the water!
