"Like father, like son."
In these photos, Mitch and his boys joined Neil, Phillip W, Travis, and I for a frustrating session.
Travis was making it happen on the 5’10 Underground Freewave Fish and the 15m Airush Lithium. I should have pumped up the 13m for myself, but after pumping up every other kite we own first, I opted for practicing my new ukulele. It was just one of those days when the wind feels like it’s blowing but it doesn’t pack a punch. It’s so easy to ride downwind, isn’t it? But boy, that ¼ mile hike back up the beach with kite and board: not so much. It didn’t help matters that there were some weird, spiky, translucent, skins/shells that felt not unlike thorns stabbing at our soles during the walk. Talk about adding insult to injury…..or rather injury to insult. I haven’t yet discovered what those little shells are, but I’ve never noticed them before. While I strummed, Zack took a nap in his dad’s board bag and Blaise borrowed my harness to snag Mitch’s fatherly kiteboarding advice. Despite the uncooperative wind, we all enjoyed our beautiful sandy white beaches and made sure to take in some deep breaths of the salty Southeastern Gulf Breeze.

Planktonic Shrimp
A friend just informed me that the little shells we were stepping on came from some type of planktonic shrimp.
I've also added a photo of them to the photo album above.
