Have you been tuning your lines lately?
After a lucky July, we’ve had a bit of doldrums lately.
We’ve been watching a low pressure system in the Gulf and hope it delivers wind for us soon before we reach “desperate kiteboarder” status. We went out Sunday, but arrived just a little late to catch the wind as a thunderstorm arrived and killed it. Travis and Mark were able to squeeze in a quick session while we still had some sea breeze. As you can see in the photos, there are no whitecaps. Mark was working it on his 19m Flysurfer! We did have a nice day at the beach, hanging out with our new friends Lasse and Helle. They have recently arrived from Denmark to join our local kiteboarding scene. Helle will be taking lessons soon and we can’t wait to see her on the water!
We helped Lasse tune the lines for his new 10m Airush Lithium. Tuning lines isn’t something we did when we first started kiteboarding, but now we’ve realized the importance. By setting or locking the fibers in your lines when they are new, you will save yourself some hassle while tuning your bar and lines later on. After looping the larkshead and pigtail connections over the door latch on Kimo (our Chevy surf van), Travis pulled with a firm pressure against the door latch (substitute any other solid object for yourself) with the bar perpendicular to the center lines until he felt the elasticity of the lines reduced and the lengths evened. Lasse is now all set up and ready to go and so are we because a week is too long to wait between sessions!
